Are the Man Utd Sesko links taken from the old Man City/Berrada playbook?

It’s common knowledge United need a striker, they also need a few other positions too but for now let’s focus on the striker. In today’s footballing world there is a distinct lack of top class strikers like era’s gone by, 20 years ago each top team had a world class striker, now there’s not so many. So in this limited pool of top strikers to choose from you will be linked with most, and look at this off season already; Oshimen is off the board having moved to Galatasary for a million a week or whatever it is, Gyokeres has moved to Arsenal, Ekitike to Liverpool is done, Isak is a no go for United currently, so you’re left really with only Sesko left as a perceived top striker. Even in that list the term “top striker” is debatable, Gyokeres unproven at the highest level, same with Ekitike, and the same can be said with Sesko.

So with Berrada now running things at Old Trafford is this latest Sesko chase a thing from the Man City playbook of years gone by? You know the one, be interested in a player all the way only to lose out to a rival who will pay over the odds to get him, similar to what happened with Sanchez and Ronaldo which United suckered into paying huge wages to get the player. The old classic routine of doing a rival over. This brings me back to the point, are United actually interested in Sesko, do thy believe he is the next big player? There are certainly a number of question marks around him, mainly his goal tally hasn’t set the world alight at Leipzig but also just with the way it’s unfolding if United did really want him they surely would have made a bid already, especially if reports are to be believed he wants to go to Old Trafford.

For me this just has Berrada’s hands all over it, stay in the game enough to feign interest but perhaps have your eyes elsewhere. Also if there isn’t a player they deem good enough why waste your money, invest it in a goalkeeper or central midfielder and look again next year at a striker. They have already signed Cunha who can play the striker role if needed along with Zirkzee and Hojlund too so they have options for now.

Time will tell and it will be interesting to see how this plays out and whether or not United have upped their transfer nous under a new regime.
