League 2 picks for the 25/26 season. Mariners?
Yes the season has already started but let’s make ther smart play here, let’s have a look at the first round of fixtures at least before committing entirely to the season predictions, I’ll expect to have another go as we move to September too.
For now though we take a look at some of the teams to keep an eye on in League 2.
Grimsby, started the win over relegated Crawley with a comfortable win which has given some confidence in our thoughts they are going to be a team challenging near the top this year. They have been progressing slowly over the past few seasons, finishing in a 9th placed finish last season narrowly missing out on the playoffs, they have recruited and strengthened well this season and look primed for a push at promotion. At 13/8 they look decent value for just a top 7 finish alone which we’d expect to be the case, but if you fancy them for promotion you can get 6/1 for a top 3 finish with 12s for an outright win. League 2 is so unpredictable we’d rather play safe with certainly a top 7 play but also like 6/1 for a top 3 promotion.
Crewe are the next team on the list. They have been a perennial yo-yo club between League 1 and League 2, though last playing in League 1 three seasons ago now. Finishing mid table last year only 8 points off a playoff place with a woeful finish to the season costing them. They’ve had a good pre season and a good result up against Salford to kick things off. As ever with Crewe they are always unfancied which is what makes them more appealing to us. 9/4 for a top 7 finish, 13/2 for top 3. Both offer strong value, but 9/4 to finish in essentially the top 33% of the league is value.
A couple of other teams we like, such as Gillingham Cambridge and Bristol Rovers but will see how they perform over the next few games.
For now though, Grimsby and Crewe are some good value bets.
