Another day, another session, another boozy one rather than the cricket variety.

Joe Root has been back in post as England Cricket Captain for all but one test before he has to face the media over another late night mess that he now has to try and clean up. The focus no doubt should have been on a dominating first test win for England back under Root’s leadership, but now the shadow of recent times has made it’s way over again. At this point the details aren’t known of what led to Brydon Carse being pictured in handcuffs (with that man Stokes pictured in the background) but there needs to come a point where an understanding for England players especially in the current climate needs to be looked at.

Root will no doubt handle this in his usual professional nature which is probably a main reason as to why he was given the role again ahead of someone like Brook, but you can also imagine behind the scenes he will be seething and will make his expectations clear to players who want to be playing for England. I’d expect Carse now to be sidelined for the foreseeable but not ostracised like Hales was, there will be a way back, just not immediately.

I’m sure Root will be wanting to get back to cricket and put this particularly poor Pakistan side to the sword with a 3-0 test series victory. It will be hard to gauge where England are at after this series given the nature of the opposition, which is a shame as England is richer for having a strong Pakistan side. That next test will come in the winter on the tour of South Africa, that will give a good indication of what standing England are in as they go into next summers Ashes against the Aussies, a series and Ashes which needs to end in victory and probably should!!
